The cellar
Our winery in Montefano is the heart and soul of our company. We have been producing wine here for almost sixty years and over time our wine has become the symbol of a guaranteed good quality price ratio enhanced by our special terroir.
We mainly produce wines from the Marche. Some of our wines like Rosso del Monte have been a real insight into the understanding of table wine and have been a trend setter for “gentle” wines as an accompaniment for food. These have also been greatly appreciated by ladies.
The grapes come from vineyards located in the central-southern part of the Marche between Montefano, Montecassiano, Recanati, Matelica, Moresco and some vineyards in the province of Chieti in the Abruzzo.
From the vineyards to the wine: technique and expertise
The first phase of our work takes place during the harvest. Towards the middle of August we pick the first bunches of grapes as suggested by our winemaker. The care and attention we put into harvesting provides the quality that meets the needs of a very discerning consumer. In fact we pick the grapes at what we consider the optimum time, before the beginning of each stage, from the pressing and maceration on the skins to how many days we keep the skins in contact with the must, we decide which style of wine we are aiming for.
Chardonnay is a very early grape usually maturing by the end of August. Great care is needed to avoid the formation of mould which can appear even if there is a delay in picking of one single day.
The next to be picked is the Pinot Noir, the first grape of Rosso del Monte. This red grape also matures very early which is harvested in Moresco in the province of Fermo on a beautiful hillside near the sea. From here we also get other grape varieties from Cabernet Sauvignon to Merlot whose bunches are very small and of a beautiful deep purple colour.
The grapes of Lacrima di Morro d’Alba, also of a very deep purple and which characterise the colour of the wine, at the time of pressing and subsequent fermentation, all around the cantina you are aware of an intoxicating perfume of pressed roses and violets which carries through to the aroma of the wine.
Last but not least is the harvesting of the Verdicchio which happens in late September, sometimes even in mid-October, because the vineyards are located in the beautiful Matelica area 354 metres above sea level and some years these grapes are even picked after the first snowfall. The bunches are small and of a green that when it is ripe becomes almost reddish in colour and the external harvesting temperatures help to preserve the fragrance during processing.
The wine and its terroir
Every vintage is different. Each area where the grapes are harvested in our beautiful Marche region says something specific about our terroir, which is not just the location of the vineyard with its climate or the type of grape, but also about its people with their personal history and culture thereby distinguishing our wines from the others that are produced around the world.
Bottling

Even the bottling is done directly by us in the cellar. We have always continued the practice of returnable bottles as well as for demijohns. The wine is bottled in sizes from 0.50cl to 0.75cl to 1 litre.
